A number of us have been working on an affordable solution and we have designed and built a system that consists of LED lights (very energy efficient, very bright and long lived) and batteries recharged by solar panels. We have been able to get the total cost to around $300 per light and we need a light approximately every 100 metres.
A number of Larry’s friends have approached me to help them make Larry’s plan to light the trails a reality. Many people are stepping up to sponsor an individual light ($300), but we want the opportunity for anyone to make whatever contribution they want to the lights. All contributors will be recognized on a plaque that will be prominently displayed in the Highlands Nordic chalet (no dollar amount or ranking will be shown on the plaque).
Any excess funds collected will be retained by the Highlands Trailblazers to provide an ongoing legacy to celebrate Larry’s many contributions to skiing.
The fundraising site for ”Light the trails for Larry” is here.
If you know someone who has known Larry and might be interested in helping us complete the project Larry started, please forward this email to them. Please also include it in a tweet and add it to your Facebook page.
If you want to read about some of Larry’s many contributions check out the posting on the CCC website here.
With your help we can have a fitting tribute to one who gave so much to the ski community.
