July 05, 2019 (Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC) – Canada’s cross-country ski athletes will be following a trail to Quebec for the 2021 Canadian Ski Championships, Nordiq Canada’s Events Committee announced in concert with Corporation Courses de ski de fond Quebec (CCSFQ). The Championships will be held at the Mont-Sainte-Anne Ski Centre in cooperation with officials from Club Nordique Mont-Saint-Anne, Skibec and Laval University.
The unique bid brings together the ski centre, volunteers from local clubs and the expertise of regional officials who have played a major support role in delivering successful World Cup events in 2019, 2017 and 2016. The bid reflected the region’s long-term vision for officials, athlete and facility development. Having invested close to $1 Million in infrastructure development at the site since the region last hosted the National Championships in 2012 the bid committee anticipates further development over the period between now and the 2021 Championships.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to end the 2021 season with our national championships in one of the hot beds of our sport in Canada,” said Dave Dyer, events director, Nordiq Canada.
“Both Skibec and Club Nordique Mont-Sainte-Anne have taken a leadership role in athlete development which is reflected in their strong showing at past Canadian Championships and in Nordiq Canada’s Podium Awards program.
The Rouge et Or Nordic Team has also consistently fielded a strong school program that competes annually as part of the CCUNC competitions at the Championships and in the intercollegiate program in the USA. It will be great to see these athletes showcased on home snow in 2021.”
The premier event on the 2021 domestic race calendar will be staged in March and will be one of the last major ski events held in Canada prior to 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
“Obtaining the 2021 National Championships is the culmination of efforts undertaken five years ago to develop new race courses and infrastructures. Our team of officials and volunteers from the Greater Quebec City and South Shore region will be able to successfully deliver these championships as we have done in the past,” commented Pierre Boutet, président du comité organisateur
Mont Sainte-Anne currently has eight trails homologated to international standards with three more planned for development before the 2021 event. The trails at Mont Sainte-Anne will provide a variety of options for both senior and junior skiers at the 95th running of the Canadian Ski Championships event.
“We are very pleased to again welcome the national championships to Mont Sainte-Anne, a site that has hosted major competitions for more than 40 years. Our vast network of trails and the quality of our snow at the end of the season will allow us to hold high caliber competitions and participate in the development of athletes in this Olympic sport., ”reflected M. Maxime Cretin, Vice-Président du Mont-Sainte-Anne et de la région
de l’est de Resorts of the Canadian Rockies
