Olympian Perianne Jones & Para-Nordic National Ski Team Member Brittany Hudak Join CCC’s Women’s Committee

release by CCC

May 31, 2015 – The Cross Country Canada Ski de Fond Canada (CCC) Women’s Committee is excited to welcome 2010 and 2014 Olympian Perianne Jones, and Paranordic National Ski Team member Brittany Hudak to their ranks. The Women’s Committee is a group of high-profiled professionals who are focused on shaping opportunities for girls and women in all facets of cross-country skiing across the country.

The Women’s Committee is an operational committee of CCC and exists to ensure equality of opportunity for girls and women as participants, competitors, coaches, officials and leaders in cross-country skiing in each of its five regions across the country (Atlantic; Quebec/Nunavut; Ontario; Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Alberta/ NWT; and British Columbia/Yukon).

Brittany Hudak was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She is currently in her third year of a Bachelor’s degree in social work. She started cross-country skiing when she was 18 and decided last year to take up biathlon as well. She has been competing at the international level for only two years but she already has several IPC World Cup medals to her name. She hopes to compete for many more years as she pursues her athletic goals.

Brittany is “excited to be part of the Women’s Committee because I value equality and empowerment. I believe that women should be encouraged to participate in sport and have equal opportunities within sport.  I think being part of the Women’s Committee will be a unique opportunity to learn more about the roles of women in sport.”

Perianne Jones was part of the National Ski Team for 12 years. She participated in two Olympic games (Vancouver and Sochi) and is a two-time world cup team sprint medalist. Perianne enjoys passing on her passion for sport and health to younger generations. She has volunteered with Ski Fit North Alberta, Fast and Female, and many ski clubs across the country. Perianne will start to exercise her brain this September as a full time student, rather than full time athlete. She lives with her husband and dog in Canmore, Alberta and is looking forward to the new challenges that will come along with the next chapter of her life.

When asked why she is excited to join the Women’s Committee, Perianne replied:

“I’m really grateful to have this opportunity to be part of the Women’s Committee, and join a group of highly respected women in the ski community. My experience as a recent athlete in the program will bring a different perspective and insight to the table, and I think that can only be beneficial.”
