April 01, 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Norwegian Nordic skiing superstar Petter Northug Jr. announced his intention today to immigrate to Canada with the hope of competing for the Maple Leaf at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang.
The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise given his somewhat controversial sprint during his recent visit to Canmore, AB for the SkiTour Canada FIS World Cup event, when he and some of his other Norwegian teammates were accused of poor sportsmanship at the suggestion that they purposely threw their races so they wouldn’t have to attend medal ceremonies that evening.
However, Northug shrugged it off insisting that he became inspired by Canada during his visit to Quebec and the Canadian Rockies for the competitions and wishes to become a Canadian, citing the fabulous trails, citizens’ politeness, and the country’s delectable maple syrup as the main reasons for his decision.
