October 10, 2013 (Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, QC) – A 4.9km roller ski trail has been built up the flanks of Mont Sainte Anne. The project, which was the result of a partnership between Mont Sainte Anne, the Pierre-Harvey National Training Centre (PHNTC), and the municipality of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, cost some $425,000 and recently opened on September 27.
Olympic xc skier Alex Harvey, son of the PHNTC’s namesake, describes the new trail as a place where elite athletes can train safely without worrying about automobile traffic. He also suggests that there is more vertical on this trail than on any other similar trail in Canada.
PHNTC head coach Louis Bouchard believes that athletes there will now be able to develop their technique in a more realistic environment than “normal roads” afford. “This is a circuit that will really resemble difficult ski trails,” he noted
