Silver Star Camper Update

provided by Norm Crear

October 10, 2005 – Dear XC Campers! Another short note to keep you up-to-date on the latest happenings on
the XC front at Silver Star Mountain. If you had a chance to look at
the “Main Street Cam” at www.skisilverstar.com
{http://www.skisilverstar.com} you will have seen more snow! It is
Canadian Thanksgiving this week-end. The trees are in full color and
the mountain has a cap of very white snow on it. The snow line starts
at the village level and goes up for 1000 feet. At the top of the
mountain there is a foot of snow (30 CM) If it had not been for an
emergency golf game with family members I would have trotted
(actualy, probably Nordic Walked) up the mountain and tried out the
glide.

Actually, there was enough snow to ski at the top of the mountain on
Friday. Glenn Bond, our XC Manager and Norman Kreutz, our director of
skiing, would have gone up and tried the snow Friday but they were out
concreting in XC Trail Signs on some of the new XC Trails built this
summer. I think they would have enjoyed the skiing more.

Registration for the XC Camps is now underway. Folks are making their
travel plans and gearing up for the best early season XC skiing in
North America. I would encourage everyone to register as early as
possible. We have our regular faculty members coming back and there
are a number of others on stand-by depending on registration numbers.
As the International XC Teams are booking up a lot of rooms on the
mountain, rooms will be at a premium as we get to the end of October.
Our hotel, the Silver Star Club Resort, is holding rooms for the
Camps. If you want to book directly with the hotel, you can call toll
free at 1-800-669-0805. If you stayed with us last year, there will be
a record and you can request the same room again, if it is available.
If you want to register on-line, you can do so on our camp web page
www.xccamps.ca {http://www.xccamps.ca}.

There are some interesting developments for lectures and
presentations for the camps and I will keep you all up-to-date on
those.

Keep well and for Canadians, don’t eat too much turkey! For our
American friends, we will keep some turkey for you and help you
celebrate when you are up here skiing with us.
