Pumped at the Snow Farm in NZ

kuhnSeptember 11, 2009 I have safely arrived in New Zealand and was happy to have a super travel day with no hiccups. We arrived at the Snow Farm with plenty of time to train in the afternoon. Unfortunately for us newcomers it was foggy and we could not see where we were going.

The trail system here is pretty unique in the way it winds back in forth through the valley. We have three weeks of skiing ahead of us with the New Zealand Games 15 days into our trip – that will be exciting for all of us to put a race bib on in August. I have come off an easy two weeks of training so now it’s time to ramp up the hours for next three weeks and put a big load in. The next three weeks I will put in about 20-24 hours each week and race two of the three races.

Coming off the last two weeks of easy training things feel good and my motivation is high. I look forward to putting in a big block of volume and some fun racing. For part of my two-week rest period I was in Sicamous, BC with my wife for six days resting and enjoying the hot sun of the Okanagon valley. I also was able to join my soccer team from Canmore, AB in a tournament just down the road. For the remaining days of my down time I chilled at home in Canmore, went swimming and revamped my back yard. Of course I also fit in some fantastic days of golf.

I will be updating my web site in a week or so with some great ski shots and some of the amazing view’s when the clouds lift. I wish I had a shot of my crash yesterday. Phil Widmer got a great view since he was skiing behind me and witnessed my face-plant just 5 minutes into the ski – I blamed it on the jet lag!
