December 19, 2016 (Rossland, B.C.) – On Sunday it was another chilly day in Rossland, with the temperature around -15 deg. C. as the final day of the Haywood NorAm, mini-tour took place at the Black Jack ski club. Sunday’s events were 10 and 15 classic, pursuit races.
The U.S. skiers were dominating the podium over the first two days, but on the final day it was Nakkertok’s Katherine Stewart-Jones, who climbed to the top of the podium for Canada, with a 6-second victory over Alaska’s Chelsea Holmes. Erika Flowers of Stratton was 48 seconds back, less than a second ahead of Hollyburn’s Annika Richardson who was the 2nd best Canuck. Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt of Fondeurs Laurentides was another 18 seconds back, to be the 3rd Canadian.Natalie Hynes of Whitehorse won the Junior Women’s category ahead of Lisle Compton of Kenora and her Yukon teammate Hannah Deuling.
The Senior Men’s race was won by Alexis Dumas of Skibec, followed by Soo Finnish racer Jack Carlyle and Erik Carleton of Rocky Mtn. Racers.Gareth Williams of Telemark won the Junior Men’s race over Caelan Pangman McLean of Whitehorse and hometown favourite Remi Drolet of Black Jack.
With Sunday’s win it looks to be a close contest between Stewart-Jones and Bouffard-Nesbitt for the Canadian lead on the Continental Cup standings. On the men’s side Lappe’s Evan Palmer-Charette looks to be at the top of the standings. Official confirmation of who is eligible to start at the Swedish World Cups will be announced shortly.
For the final standings Haywood NorAm mini-tour standings, it was Chelsea Holmes winning for the women’s overal and Evan Palmer-Charette taking the men’s title.
