June 12, 2012 (Park City, UT) – In this edition of Talkin’ with the Gravy-Train, Peter Graves speaks with Zach Caldwell, a Putney, Vermont native has spent a lifetime (so far) in and around the sport of cross-country skiing. Born into the famed Caldwell clan – JC is his uncle – he skied at Putney School graduating in 1988, and then went off to school at Middlebury College, where he was a member of the varsity ski team. He has been involved in all aspects of the sport from coaching, which he continues to do, with the likes of Kris Freeman and Noah Hoffman and has provided waxing, grinding and all aspects of ski service at the highest levels of the sport including at the Olympic Games, World Championships and Tour de Ski to mention a few.
Caldwell also served NENSA as the program director for six seasons prior to buying his first grinding machine in 2002. He has also worked for Boulder Nordic Sports and following a stint in British Columbia, Caldwell, and his wife Amy, and their son, have opened Caldwell Sport, back in Putney. Peter spoke with Zach last week just prior to him leaving on a trip to Scandinavia about what providing ski service is all about.
