March 10, 2018 (Kontiolahti, Finland) – Team USA rallied from 18th place to finish ninth in the Mixed Relay with one penalty and 11 spare rounds as Italy took home the victory with one penalty and 13 spare rounds.
The Ukraine finished second at 1.5 seconds behind with only three spares while Norway placed third using nine spare to finish 9.1 seconds behind the winners. Canada was 17th also with one penalty and 13 spare rounds. It was the best mixed relay finish of the season for Team USA’s Clare Egan, Joanne Reid, Tim Burke and Sean Doherty at 2:48.4 behind the winners, coming off a 15th-place finish at the PyeongChang Winter Games. Doherty skied the second-fastest second loop to pull the U.S. up to ninth place at the line.“I am very happy with how I was feeling today,” said Doherty. “The body was firing on all cylinders, the skis were rockets and it was fun to be able to fight back and make up a few spots.”
Team Canada’s Emma Lunder, Julia Ransom, Scott Gow and Brendan Green were challenged on the range as well and finished 4:34.9 behind Italy.
