USA Nordic Statement on Women’s Nordic Combined Not Being Included at 2022 Olympic Games

release by USA Nordic

July 18, 2018 (Park City, Utah) – New sports are being included in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and USA Nordic is happy for the dedicated athletes and hard working organizers who will have the opportunity to realize their dreams of representing their countries.

Women’s Nordic combined will not be included in the 2022 Olympics and there is a certain level of disappointment felt at USA Nordic. While it is always easy to root for fellow athletes who are colleagues and counterparts, it’s not always easy to train just as hard right next to them while unsure of the fate of your sport.

Billy Demong, USA Nordic Executive Director and Nordic Combined Olympic Champion commented, “We were optimistic that our athletes would be included in women’s Nordic combined, however they will continue to train as their spirit may be temporarily dampened but their passions will be reignited.”

Equality is a cornerstone of the philosophy of USA Nordic. Many deciding factors go into the larger logistical lists on which sports land. USA Nordic is confident that the women who will be supportive spectators this time, will be consummate competitors next time.
