December 03, 2016 (Oestersund, Sweden) – The USA’s Lowell Bailey shot clean to finish 13th in the men’s 10km Sprint at 58.7s behind Martin Fourcade of France who was also perfect on the range and went two-for-two in Oestersund.
The home crowd were on their feet as Sweden’s Fredrik Lindstroem also shot clean to finish second at 41.5 seconds back. Germany’s Arnd Peiffer cleaned as well to claim the last spot on the podium at 43.6 seconds behind.
“It was an exciting race today,” said Bailey. “It is unbelievable how competitive this men’s field is this year. I felt good about the race today, but it wasn’t quite enough to stay in the top ten.
Also qualifying for the men’s pursuit on Sunday was Tim Burke (USA) who was 29th with one miss at 1:28 back. Canada’s Brendan Green finished 32nd also with one miss at 1:39.1 behind. Scott Gow (Can) was 50th at 2:14.8 behind followed by Macx Davies in 52nd, Russell Currier (USA) in 69th, Christian Gow (Can) in 90th and Nathan Smith in 96th.
Bailey added, “The nice thing is that the pursuit will be incredibly close at the top of the race tomorrow, and this means there will be a lot of ‘pack’ skiing, which I like. The conditions on the shooting range were perfect; no wind and good visibility with a relatively easy range approach. This made for some high-percentage shooting from the field. I felt decent on skis and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s pursuit… should be a fun race.”
