March 23, 2019 (Quebec City, QC) – The USA’s Sadie Bjornsen finished 18th in a crash-filled women’s 10km CL mass start in tough snow conditions at Quebec City. Stina Nilsson (Swe) edged Therese Johaug (Nor) for the win, with Ingvild Flugstad Oetsberg (Nor) in third.
“It was tricky out there, a little frustrating but the whole crowd and scene was fun,” said Bjornsen who lost her kick early in the race. “I feel amazing right now in my skiing and unfortunate we didn’t have much kick out there.Jessie Diggins finished 29th after a fall during the second lap. Emily Nishikawa was the top Canadian placing 38th. “Today was not a very good race for me, it was a good effort, but in the race I had no kick,” said Diggins. “I caught a rut out there and fell but got up and fought hard to stay in the race.”
For Nishikawa it was a good day at the office. “It was a good day. The conditions were really fast, icy and tricky, but I had a lot of fun racing out there,” said Nishikawa. “I was happy with the way I skied. It is a big challenge to work your way up the pack from the back of the mass start, but I skied as well as I could have today.”
