December 15, 2018 (Hochfilzen, Austria) – American Susan Dunklee finished 28th in the women’s 10km pursuit with two penalties as Finland’s Kaisa Makarainen claimed her third victory of the season despite three penalties. Joanne Reid was 31st with one miss while Canada’s Rosanna Crawford placed 44th with three penalties.
Slovakia’s Paulina Fialkova equaled her personal best result in second place, 1.5 seconds back, with a single penalty. Third place went to Italy’s Dorothea Wierer, with four penalties, 2.8 seconds behind Makarainen. In the men’s 12.5km pursuit, France’s Martin Fourcade shot clean for the win. The USA’s Sean Doherty moved up 18 spots to finish 31st at 2:37.3 back with two penalties. Second place went to Germany’s Arnd Peiffer, with one penalty at 13.7 seconds back, while Norway’s Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen claimed a career-best third place with clean shooting at 16.1 seconds back of Fourcade. Canada’s Scott Gow finished 51st with four penalties.“As with every good race like this one, it all started with great skis,” said Doherty. “I really can’t thank them (wax technicians) enough. I am very happy with my work on the range today and the skiing is getting better every day. So I’m looking forward to the relay tomorrow as another chance to put on a bib and go for it.”
