February 04, 2017 (PyeongChang, Korea) – Noah Hoffman finished 8th to match his best individual World Cup finish while teammate Scott Patterson in 9th recorded his best World Cup finish as Russia’s Petr Sedov won the men’s 30 km Skiathlon in PyeongChang, Korea for his first World Cup podium and victory rolled into one.
Sedov broke away from Norway’s Daniel Stock on the skating leg and won with a time of 1:18.49.6. Stock finished in second 22.5 seconds later while fellow Norge, Mathias Rundgreen, was third at 42.1 seconds back – this was their first World Cup individual podiums as well.
Hoffman was out front for much of the classic leg dropping to eight at the exchange. He ratcheted it back up towards the front before settling into the chase pack eventually finishing eighth overall. Patterson rallied near the end of the race to finish just behind Hoffman in ninth while Matt Gelso was 19th – it was the first World Cup points for both American skiers. “I felt very strong today. I have to thank to my coach, service staff and to my family. I am very glad that my first ever World Cup podium is a win,” said Sedov post race.Results here.
