Mayerhoffer was the 2015 NCAA Champion in the 5-km freestyle while finishing second in the 15-km classic in a photo finish at NCAA’s, making her a two-time All-American. She was the RMISA Women’s Alpine MVP and a first-team All-RMISA selection. Mayerhofer had four total wins, including winning both the 10-km classical and 5-km freestyle at New Mexico and the 15-km classical at Colorado. She finished on the podium 10 times with five second-place finishes and did not finish lower than fourth during the year.
“I am not only happy but am extremely proud for Veronika to receive this award,” Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. “It is truly exceptional when coaches across the country agree that she is the best of the best in collegiate racing this season! Veronika was extremely consistent all season long and made an immediate impact for us in the opening events followed up by a powerful gold and silver at the championships. She has been a great team player and is no doubt instrumental to the success the women’s Nordic team experienced this season. Aside from the start gate, Veronika has excelled academically for us. It has been a very enjoyable win-win situation. I am extremely honored to have her represent the U at this level.”
Mayerhofer has been on the Austrian ski team since 2006. She competed at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and finished 13th in the 4×5-km relay with Austria.
“I am thrilled to hear that Veronika has won this award,” Utah head Nordic coach Abi Holt said. “Of course her results were outstanding throughout the season, so she certainly skied her way to this accolade. However, she has also been a very nice addition to the RMISA circuit. She competed in every RMISA race this season, and throughout the winter I watched Veronika conduct herself as both a good winner and a gracious runner-up. Veronika is a fast skier, and a classy woman. This award is well deserved.”
Utah finished third at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
