December 12, 2013 This year’s season opening in Norway’s Lillehammer was a historic moment for the ladies’ Ski Jumping World Cup presented by Viessmann as the number of participants set a record for the discipline. In the qualification, 70 ladies from 17 nations were fighting for a spot in the main competition. In comparision, when the first ever ladies’ World Cup was held on 3
rd December 2011 in Lillehammer, 49 competitors from 14 nations took part.
Moreover, for the first time, athletes from Poland competed in the World Cup – both in the single and in the mixed team event.
FIS Race Director for ladies’ Ski Jumping, Chika Yoshida, commented, “The high number of registered athletes was an amazing start.. The numbers are showing the attractiveness and fast development of the discipline, which is in its third World Cup edition this season. The first appearance of Team Poland in Lillehammer is a sign of the bright future of ladies’ Ski Jumping.”
