2009 IBU Youth/Junior Worlds Canmore – Team Relay Silver for Canada

February 4, 2009 (Canmore, AB) – Canada’s youth men continued their medal haul on the final day of competition at the 2009 IBU Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships in Canmore, Alberta. On Tuesday the Canadian youth team of Kurtis Wenzel, Aaron Gillmor and Scott Gow in the team relay earned a silver medal 1:58.6 behind the first place team from France. In third was Russia 2:37.4 back off the lead. The American team of Eathan Dreissigacher, Raileigh Goessling, and Nick Michaud were 8th in the 3 x 7.5km relay.

In the women’s youth race the US team of Addie Bryne, Grace Boutot, and Hilary McNamee were 5th in the 3 x 6km relay 3:32.3 off the winning time of set by the Russian team. In second was Belarus, followed by Italy. The Canadian team of Rose-Marie Cote, Yolaine Oddou, and Tatiana Chesham was 6th.

In the junior men’s 4 x 7.5km relay the Canadian’s (Matthew Neumann, Stuart Lodge, Joel Pacas, Beau Thompson) struggled with their shooting to finish in 15th -15:29.7 back from the winning time set by the Germany team. In second was Russia followed by Belarus. The US did not enter a relay team.

In the junior women’s 3 x 6km relay the Canadian team of Megan Tandy, Jessica Sedlock, and Rosanna Crawford finished in 7th place. The women’s team from the Czech Republic won the race followed by the Russians and Germans in second and third respectively. The US did not enter a women’s junior relay.
