November 16, 2009 (Zurich, SUI) – The FIS Council held its autumn meetings in Switzerland, and announced that the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2012 were slated for Erzurum, Turkey, and in 2013 would be held in Liberec (Cze) site of the 2009 Nordic Worlds. The FISU Executive Committee met a few days later on the campus of the Atatürk University in Ezurum, where the Athletes’ Village will be located for the 2012 Winter Universiade.

Turkey has been active in building infrastructure for ski jumping – see Strong Interest in Jumping in Turkey for 2011 Olympiade – and has held several FIS seminars on site to prepare for international level competition. The interest, and now inclusion, of Middle Eastern sites for Nordic competition is an encouraging note for the globalization, understanding, appreciation, and participation in snow sports around the world.
