May 04, 2013 – FIS is pleased to announce the receipt of seven applications as candidates for the FIS World Championships in 2018 and 2019. By the May 1, 2013 deadline, the following applications have been received:

” One candidate for the 2018 FIS Ski Flying World Championships: Oberstdorf (GER)
” Four candidates for the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships: Almaty (KAZ), Oberstdorf (GER), Planica (SLO), Seefeld (AUT)
” Two candidates for the 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships:
˙re (SWE), Cortina d Ampezzo (ITA)

Applications for the 2019 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships remain open.

“FIS is happy to see that our highlight events continue to attract great interest by top Organisers in several nations. The success of our 2013 events has provided a high level benchmark for these Candidates to develop their event concepts,” commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.

Election on 5th June 2014

Following the submission of their candidatures and the application fee, each candidate with its National Ski Association, will receive the FIS Questionnaire and prepare a detailed event concept by 1st September 2013. The project plan will contain aspects such as plans for sports organisation, accommodation, transportation, logistics, security, media, communications, marketing, ceremonies, the environment, spectator services and fan experience.

Thereafter the FIS Inspection Group members will review the dossiers together with the Candidates in dedicated sessions during the FIS Technical Committee Meetings in early October 2013 in Zurich.

During the 49th International Ski Congress in Barcelona (SPA), the Candidates will have a chance to make a final presentation to the FIS Council and the respective Technical Committees. They will also be able to present their candidatures to the extended FIS family at dedicated exhibition stands at the Congress venue before theFIS Council elects the Organisers of the 2018 and 2019 FIS World Championships on Thursday, 5th June 2014.

Registration fees support the sport s global development

Each Candidate is subject to paying a non-refundable registration fee and providing training days both of which are are exclusively used to finance an extensive FIS Development Programme. For the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the registration fee for each candidature is CHF 400’000 and 200 training days, whilst for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, it is CHF 150’000 and 200 training days. For the Freestyle and Snowboard Championships the registration fee is set at CHF 175’000 with 200 training days and for the FIS Ski Flying Championships the registration fee is CHF 100 000 only.

For a second consecutive candidature, candidates are entitled to a 25 % reduction in the registration fee and, for the third and further consecutive candidacies, a 50 % reduction is granted. The training days include full-board accommodation, use of training courses or facilities and are typically valued at a theoretical rate of CHF 100 per day.
