24 Hours of Telemark Continues

January 6, 2002 – Despite the lack of snowfall in the upper Midwest this winter, the 3, 6, 12 & 24 Hours of Telemark will proceed on January 11-12, 2003 at 10 am.

“Given the current forecast, the loop on man-made snow will offer safe and fun skiing conditions in Cable next week!'” said event Director Kevin Eccles. “The crew at Telemark Resort is working hard at extending the loop to more than double their current distance of man-made snow.”

Telemark Resort is working around the clock to prepare a great man-made snow course for the race. Snow is being blown with snow guns, trucked and pushed from snow piles to make a 3.5 to 5 kilometer loop that will be easy to ski at night.

“We are working on buffing up our XC Fever man-made snow trail and adding additional trail with snow on other areas near the lodge and Valhalla Townhouses,” said Phil Van Valkenberg, Telemark Director of Sales & Marketing. “We started even before getting the go ahead from TS Events. With the good snowmaking weather in the forecast we're confident that we can make and excellent course that can be tilled and track set.”

Given the fast nature of artificial snow and the shorter laps, North American 24 Hour Distance records have a good chance of falling. Current solo male and female records stand at 321.484 kilometers and 252.462 km. The men's and women's team records stand at 517.391 km and 370 km.

The 24 Hours of Telemark, held at Telemark Resort in Cable, WI, is America's only 24 Hour cross country ski race and offers 3, 6, 12 and 24 options.
