October 27, 2013 (Thunder Bay, ON) – The grand finale of the Fresh Air/Kamview trail run series took place today at Kamview Nordic Centre. Fittingly, there was a light dusting of snow on the trails this morning as participants got ready to compete in the 9th annual Fresh Air Kamview Off-Road Half Marathon & Relay. After today’s event, we’ll be ready to usher in the ski season!
Almost 200 athletes took to the trails, completing either three solo laps of a muddy, hilly, 7km loop on the scenic Kamview trails (21km total) or 1 lap as a team of 3. As one participant said to a teammate “you sort of understated the hills”. There were smiles and cheers as athletes crossed the finish line wearing everything from a Spiderman costume to toques and tights or shorts and a t-shirt depending on their cold hardiness.
Race director Alan Cranston said, “The Fresh Air Kamview Half Marathon finishes the trail run season off with a bang, it’s great to see all the skiers, runners and week-end athletes out enjoying the trails and being a part of Thunder Bay’s running community.”
We’d like to thank the event’s sponsors who include: Fresh Air Experience, Salomon and Thunder Bay Nordic Trails and of course the volunteers who enable the event to run smoothly.
