Adaptive Nordic \”On Snow\” Training Camp

December 22, 2005 – ADAPTIVE NORDIC “ON SNOW” TRAINING CAMP: January. 27TH-29TH, 2006 will be held at Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island, BC, hosted by the Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports in conjunction with the Canadian National Disabled Nordic Development Team and Head Coach, Jeff Whiting.

This is a fun three day workshop for all interested Nordic skiers, recreational beginners as well as experienced skiers, with all levels of disabilities. Individual and group coaching in adaptive techniques, demonstrations, and a fun race organized by the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club’s Coastal race Committee, will provide skiers with a social and educational weekend. Race specific participants should indicate this interest with initial contact. See agenda below.

Instructors who have completed the Introduction to Community Coaching course will be able to participate in the latest NCCP’s CC Workshop which features an additional disabled component, offered at the same time as the training camp, to allow instructors a “hands on approach”.

The costs is estimated at $80.00. To register and receive more course information please indicate this in your registration. All instructors teaching disabled students are encouraged to support this program which is being promote through CCBC/CCC.

Rental skis are available; however if you require a sit ski it is advisable to bring one from your local ski club if possible or to let us know in advance to help locate one for you.

Accommodations and meals will be at the Quadra Base – Courtenay, BC at a reasonable rate; however, there are many motels and restaurants in the area, if preferred. Transportation to the mountain is approx. a 45 min. drive with carpooling available. The registration fee of $55.00 will cover membership in DSABC and two trail passes. If already a member of DSABC please deduct $35.00. There may be a small travel allowance available to help with costs.

In late April or early May, 2006, there will be a ADAPTIVE NORDIC “DRYLAND” TRAINING CAMP at this same location, featuring members of the Canadian National Disabled Nordic Team with Head Coach, Kasper Wirtz.

These sessions will include specific weight training techniques, roller skiing, mountain boarding, and wheeling with poles. Additional workshops will cover interval training, aquatic exercises and nutrition. Sea kayaking lessons are included. Please indicate if interested in this Camp, designed for all levels of skiers with a recreational or competitive interest.
