After two days of racing, Alaska leads in the points race for its namesake cup. Alaska has 747 points. New England holds second with 645 points and Midwest is in third with 509 points. New England has won the Alaska Cup for the last four years. Alaska last won the award in 2008.

The Alaska OJ teams have given Team Alaska a big boost. The women’s OJ team leads by nearly 100 points, while the men’s OJ team leads by nearly 50. Alaska also leads in the women’s J1 and the men’s J2 categories with 79 and 147 points respectively. New England leads in the men’s J1 and women’s J2 categories with 124 and 150 points respectively.

The Midwest holds third place with strong showings by its women’s J1 team, which leads its category with 126 points, and men’s OJ team, which is second in its category with 103 points. Rocky Mountain is in fourth place led by its men’s J1 team at 102 points. Intermountain holds fifth place led by its women’s J1 team, which is in second place in its category with 120 points.

Two more events are still to be held. Thursday will feature sprint races, and the 2013 Cross Country Junior Nationals close on Saturday with the mass start, classic technique, individual 5K/10K/15K races. The Junior Nationals normally close with the team relay races, but that was changed this year in an attempt to improve the overall event. Find out more about that change here.
