Alberta World Cup Academy to Operate Alberta Ski Team Program

release by Cross Country Alberta

August 11, 2010 (Canmore, Alberta) – Cross Country Alberta (CCA) is pleased to announce that the Alberta World Cup Academy has been contracted to operate the Alberta Ski Team and the Alberta Development Team for the 2010/2011 season. Under the leadership of Mike Cavaliere, Chris Jeffries and Eric Groeneveld, the AWCA will be delivering an exciting and relevant program to the 33 Alberta athletes aged 12 to 19 that make up the AST and ADT.

The first camp under AWCA’s leadership is an AST Sprint Camp scheduled to take place in Canmore from August 12 to 15. The Guest Coach for this camp will be Peter Larsson, a sprint specialist from Sweden and winner of 6 FIS World Cups. AWCA athletes Drew Goldsack and Graham Nishikawa will be supporting coaches at the camp.

AWCA has an established support team that consists of a strength coach, a physiotherapist and a medical doctor, all of whom will also be involved with the AST and ADT programs.

The contracting of the operation of the AST and ADT is a result of extensive consultations that have taken place with coaches, athletes and parents over the past couple of years and is highlighted in the CCA Athlete Development Program for 2010/2011 that was presented at this year’s AGM.

Regular updates, reports and information about the AST and ADT programs and the athletes on the AST and ADT will be posted on the CCA website over the course of the season.
