Alex Harvey Honoured at Gala

by John Symon
December 21, 2007 (Laval, QC) – Alex Harvey was among the athletes honoured at the 35th annual Sports Quebec Gala held in Laval on Wednesday according to the Soleil. Following in the tracks of his famous father, Pierre, the younger Harvey was the top Canadian skier in the 10km and 30km events. The 19yearold also finished second in the 30km and 50km senior American events. But most of all, he was the second Canadian male ever to reach the podium when he finished third at the junior worlds FIS Nordic Junior World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy in March.

Recognized as the top male Quebec athlete of the year, Harvey was one of five Quebec athletes to receive a Maurice award for his exploits. The others were kayaker MariePier Langlois; wheelchair rugby player, Patrice Simard; basketball tournament organizer, André Simard; and swimmer, Edgar Théorêt.

In other news, Harvey is happy that surgery may not be necessary to correct an artery that is too narrow in his left leg reports Media Matin. Because the constricted part of his artery is only about two centimeters long, a catheter could be used to widen this section. If the treating surgeon at the SaintFrançoisd’Assise Hospital does advise major surgery, it would after the Junior Worlds in February, 2008.
