ASM Series City of Lake Loppet – Leibsch and Owen Win Super Snow Sunday

release by skitrax.com

February 8, 2010 (Minneapolis, Minnesota) – The ASM Series’ City of Lake Loppet brings Nordic skiing and racing to downtown Minneapolis every year. The entire weekend is a celebration of snow. The activities include snow sculpture contest, Penn Ice-Cycle Loppet – a bike race on a short track of ice, Chuck and Don’s Skijoring Loppet Minnesota Youth Ski League SuperCarnival, Rossignol Junior Loppet, Sons of Norway Minne-Loppet, the Toko/Finn Sisu Sprints, and the Luminary Loppet and Tent party – thousands of ice luminaries setup for a night-time ski round the Lake of the Isles. And of course, pasta, beer, and brats to keep you going. And that was just Saturday’s events.

Sunday saw more of the MYSL SuperCarnival, more beer and bbq at the vendor village, the REI Tour – a non-competitive 10km tour from Theodore Wirth Park and finishing Uptown. And the races.

Hoigaard’s Classic ran 25km from Wirth Park to Uptown. And the City of lake Freestyle Loppet is the 33km urban ski race, around which the weekend’s celebrations are scheduled. Participants start at Theodore Wirth Park, ski approximately 33km through woods, over parkways and across lakes to a grand finish before cheering crowds on the streets of Uptown. This years’ winners were Matt Leibsch and Kristina Owen, of CXC Vertical Limit.
