Beckie Scott Editorial – Essential We Support and Strengthen WADA

by John Symon

October 12, 2016 – Check out Beckie Scott’s impassioned and candid editorial calling for WADA to be supported as a strong and independent authority during these troubled times in sport. Scott, is the first North American woman to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing – Canada’s first Olympic medal in the sport. She initially won pursuit bronze at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games that became silver, and then finally gold two years later as the two Russians ahead of her were caught doping. Rather than be elated to end up with the gold, Scott writes that “the entire experience was a let-down I could not have imagined.” Chair of the WADA Athletes Commission and an IOC member she retired from racing in 2006 and is a strong advocate for ethical and drug-free sport – read her editorial here and more on Scott here.
