Beckie Scott Makes Appearance In St. John’s Tomorrow

June 1, 2006 – Beckie Scott strides into St. John’s to help grow Cross-Country Skiing in Newfoundland

What: Canadian cross-country ski legend Beckie Scott, an Olympic gold and silver medallist, and icon for fair play in sport, will bring her infectious smile and can-do ethic to the greater St. John’s region, Saturday, June 3, to help grow the sport of cross-country skiing on the Avalon Peninsula as part of Cross Country Canada’s 2006 Annual General Meeting.

Fresh off arriving back to Canada from Ethiopia with Right to Play, Canada’s most successful and decorated cross-country ski athlete will conduct a dry-land training session with children age six-to-16 at the Avalon Nordic Ski Club, in an effort to promote the healthy benefits of getting involved in sport.

Scott, of Vermilion, Alta. who was recently named to the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission, will train with the Avalon Nordic Ski Club from 3- 4:30 p.m., in the Fluvarium at Pippy Park (or in the event of bad weather at the MUN Field House). Scott will also be available for media interviews from 6-6:30 p.m., prior to Cross Country Canada’s annual banquet at St. John’s City Hall.
