October 22, 2008 (Calgary, AB) – Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA) celebrated the grand re-opening of the recently expanded Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) at the Canmore Nordic Centre in Canmore, Alberta on Friday October 17th. Due to increased usage demand by athletes, coaches and training staff, the BWTC underwent a $2.2 million expansion. “The recent expansion reinforces the Bill Warren Training Centre’s continuing role as the hub location for Nordic sport in Canada and further compliments the world-class trail system at the Canmore Nordic Centre,” said Guy Huntingford, CODA president and CEO. “The BWTC is an integral part of CODA’s vision of a Canadian Centre of Sports Excellence.”
New facilities include an expanded weight room with high performance training equipment, new regeneration and medical rooms, advanced testing and biochemistry labs, and new coaching and administrative offices. According to Al Maddox, Cross Country Canada’s (CCC’s) executive director, the BWTC is critical for CCC success. “Expanding our capacity for delivering excellence in 2010 represents our key mission over the short term. CODA’s delivery of this expanded and enhanced BWTC is a crucial step in enabling Cross Country Canada to deliver the highest level of program support to our athletes all under one roof.”
CCC also took this opportunity to unveil 3 banners commemorating international excellence among its athletes who have retired from the sport. CCC is committed to recognizing all members of its National Ski Teams who have achieved individual international success in the form of a World Cup, Senior World Championship or Olympic medal. Upon their retirement, a larger than life banner will be hung from the ceiling in the new CCC office to celebrate their career. Congratulations to Beckie Scott, Pierre Harvey & Angela Schmidt-Foster for their outstanding performances during their careers.
