Bjoergen Wins in Mjoendalen

June 01, 2011 (Mjoendalen, Norway) – Marit Bjoergen, the quadruple Nordic World Champion from Oslo highlighted the early phase of the training year with a victory in Mjoendalen, Norway. As most xc ski athletes Bjoergen kicked off her traininig season at the beginning of May and this past weekend she took part in an initial rollerski fitness test in Mjoendalen.

The town of Mjoendalen, located near Drammen, organized a rollerski race to celebrate the birthday of local skier Vibeke Skofterud. Some of Skofterud’s teammates from the Norwegian national team, including Bjoergen, were on the start.

The queen of the 2011 Oslo World Championships prevailed in the rollerski event in downtown Mjoendalen in front of happy crowds where she beat Skofterud, the celebrity of the day, along with sprint specialist Ella Gjömle Berg.

Bjoergen was happy after the race and talked about her training program. “I trained only 20 hours in April but in May I’ve done over 70 hours. Now I’m looking forward to the next training camp with the national team that takes place on the glacier at Sognefjellet from June 5 to 10,” said Bjoergen.
