Cali Days
The leaves crunch beneath my now worn running shoes as I negotiate the soft, pine needle infested single track above the Nor-Cal town of Truckee, CA. After days upon days of warm weather, blue skies and summer-like vibes, the jackets and long tights were thrown on – a rude reminder that even in California it’s approaching mid-October. As I weave between some seriously large pines and over the endless ridges, it feels as though I am literally running into winter. Then, my mind drifts… It strikes me as unbelievable that I can follow Alex and Babs almost seamlessly while Harv talks about football in a seemingly endless, never ending stream of verbal excess – all while avoiding disastrous face plants on some of the rocky outcrops that litter the thin beat-in trail like smarties in a monster cookie – quite obviously there, but devoid of any discernable pattern.

When I left off last time I think I was just getting back from New Zealand, which as I mentioned was an incredible camp, but left me a little emptier in the tank than I had anticipated. I took it easy for a bit when I got back from New Zealand, briefly took up a new sport that involved a bow and arrow, and then decided to high tail it back to the most restful place on the planet for me- Almonte, Ontario.

Two Man Race
Kris Freeman, three time Olympian, the standard for distance skiing in the U.S. for the past ten years and my training partner on the Stelvio Glacier last month, drove over from his home in Thornton, New Hampshire this morning to do a two person head to head roller ski race against me. It was a big enough occasion that we got Zach AND Amy Caldwell out to support the session. Here they are talking about Kris’s blood sugar (He is Type 1 Diabetic.) before the session.
