by skitrax.com

July 16, 2013 – Hats off to APU coach Eric Strabel who won the Seward Mtn Marathon in Alaska; meanwhile Noah Hoffman is back home training in Aspen while Devon Kershaw reports from Canmore and training and the unfortunate recent flooding in Calgary and Toronto; and fellow Canuck Alex Harvey takes a rest day on the water…

This morning I met up with my Ski and Snowboard Club Vail/Team Homegrown teammates in Woody Creek, just outside of Aspen. They drove over early this morning to ski from Woody Creek to Glenwood Springs on the Rio Grande trail, a rail trail on the route of the old Rio Grande Railroad. The path is awesome to ski because the pavement is great and the terrain, gradual downhill for the entire 30 miles, is challenging and important to train on. It was the first time I’ve skied with a big group for a long time. I really enjoyed it.

After the ski we went to an interesting Polish restaurant in Glenwood. The food was good although it may not have been the healthiest choice.

It’s Not a Wednesday, and I lapsed a Bit – But it’s a Blog Day. Nonetheless
As the old adage goes “old habits die hard.” Turns out in addition to decimating any sugary/chocolaty/baked good type food placed within easy walking distance of me into oblivion my other old habit is letting the ye’ ole’ blog slip into a state of perpetual “un-upatedness.”

Luckily for the last few weeks everyone has been busy with his or her summer enjoyments, and with some flooding in Toronto lately I’m sure that even Jamie didn’t realize that his favorite (disclosure alert: that’s a “self-proclaimed” pronouncement by the author and in no way has Jamie or anyone close to him made that statement) blogger fell off the proverbial wagon. Yes, it’s been busy. But compared to people with real lives/jobs at times the life of a cross country ski racer may appear to have as much dead time as the horizon on the Pacific Ocean –continuing and unchanging infinitely. Also there’s this: Canmore and all of southern Alberta flooded in a major way before our team left for the heat, sunshine and altitude that Oregon has to offer for our first “altitude” camp of the season. Perhaps killing time on a poorly edited blog by an “author” who is in desperate need of a hair cut wasn’t high on your priority list as you were scrambling to find that old pump to clear out the 18 inches of water in your basement. Fair enough. Maybe not updating this thing went unnoticed.
