April 26, 2015 (Ottawa, ON) – The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) would like to announce our multi-year partnership with Canada’s dairy farmers.

“We look forward to working with Canada’s dairy farmers to help improve the state of women’s sport in Canada,” said Karin Lofstrom, Executive Director of CAAWS. “Canada’s dairy farmers have shown a strong desire to make a positive impact on young girls, women and the sports landscape that impacts them. We are excited that they have stepped up and committed to championing the cause.”

Through their new Fuelling Women Champions program, which was launched recently, Canada’s dairy farmers will support CAAWS financially and look to collaborate with the organization on research and other initiatives that can improve the female sports landscape and raise awareness for issues that are in need of being addressed. ”

We are excited to partner with CAAWS and to utilize their expertise in order to focus the Fuelling Women Champions program on important topics and issues within Canada’s female sports landscape,” said Wally Smith, a proud Canadian dairy farmer and president of Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Several key sports partners have come on board with the Fuelling Women Champions program, including Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), Swimming Canada and Rugby Canada. In addition to supporting these sports associations, Fuelling Women Champions is also working with several of Canada’s top medal-winning female athletes, supporting them in their competitive efforts and also facilitating mentorship opportunities for them with young girls and women across the country. As such, this program’s elite athlete ambassadors include Kaillie Humphries (bobsled), Jennifer Jones (curling), Chantal Petitclerc (wheelchair racing), Desiree Scott (soccer), and Natalie Spooner (hockey).

CAAWS is excited about this long term program that will definitely have a positive effect on the women and sport landscape in Canada. Shining a light on the women’s sport and all it has to offer for both the participants and the fans.
