by CVTC

November 11, 2012 – Check out the latest news from the Callaghan Valley Training Centre (CVTC) skiers who have joined the SkiTrax team of bloggers and look forward to sharing their winter activities and highlights through the season. The first report is about their great pre-season camp in the Yukon by Sebastien Townsend…

 Yukon Snow

Yesterday our team enjoyed our first ski of the year on some awesome trails high above Whitehorse. We are in the Yukon for a week long training camp Thanks to the Yukon Elite Squad and the great pre-season conditions the territory has to offer. You may be wondering what those guys have been up to this summer and to tell the truth, we don’t really know, but they are skiing really FAST.

We enjoyed a great morning ski on Saturday. The sun had just risen by the time our convoy of trucks made it up the back roads to the 5 km groomed loop just below the alpine. Having old klister covered in frozen tape was definitely not the best waxing for the mid-winter conditions but my ski was still great. The small amount of snow Whistler had melted last week so we stoked to have such amazing conditions. However, I am confident that we are in for an epic winter when we get back to Whistler.

Sunday brought the first on snow intensity for our team. We pushed hard during a relay race we did with the YES men. The training season was very successful and everyone is pumped for the race season with a couple of time trials coming this weekend it won’t be long until the first Nor-Am at the Canmore Nordic Centre.

Colin Abbott, member of last years CVTC team and current member of YES, is kindly sheltering us for the week. The team is definitely enjoying the deep fried mars bars he has been feeding us. Big thanks to his family.
