Calling all Skiers “On the Path to 2014”

release by the Banff Ski Runners XC Ski Club

September 9, 2008 – On Saturday, September 27 from 10am -12pm, the Banff Ski Runners will host “On the Path to 2014”, a club roller skiing fundraiser. The event will kick off at 10am sharp at the Parking Lot adjacent to the roller skiing path on the 1A highway between Canmore and Harvie Heights. The skiers will be roller skiing the 10 km loop between the “green hotel and the end of the 1A at the Mountain Gate Lodge.

Lafarge Canada, a major contributor to sports development in the Bow Valley and long time supporter of the Ski Runners is supporting the Ski Runners with a pledge of $3 for every kilometre skied to a specified maximum. They are challenging other sponsors in the Bow Valley to match their pledge! Pledge forms are available at www.banffskirunners.net or by emailing prez@banffskirunners.net.

The Banff Ski Runners under head coach Anders Lenes has an excellent track record of athlete development, having been one of the top five Cross Country Ski Clubs at the National Championships for Cross Country Skiing for the past five years. The club is proud of it collective standing, with one member, Graeme Killick, on the National Junior Team 5 members, Zach Holland, Hillary Schrama, Michaela Howie, Flurina Keller and Paul Dupuis on the Alberta team, as well as 3, Micah Killick, Adrienne Killick and Serina Keller on the Alberta development team. The 13 skiers that competed at the 2008 National Championships in Callaghan Valley, the site of the 2010 Olympics won a total of 11 medals. Haakon Lenes and Zach Holland led the team with Aggregate Silver place medals.

Any sponsor who contributes $50 or more with receive a Banff Mountain Ekiden training shirt – now a collectors item! Any skier who skis more than 20 km (2 laps) will also receive an Ekiden training shirt.

We encourage sponsors to come out and cheer their skiers on! There will be coffee and muffins at the Parking Lot.
