October 10, 2013 (Huntington, Vermont) – The Camels Hump Nordic Skiers Association (CHNSA) is a 35 kilometers-plus trail system, ranging from carefully groomed skating runs to barely discernable backcountry challenges, located on unique mix of public and private lands in Huntington Vermont.
This past year, with the help of a grant we’ve received from Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation, we’ve created a really fun, groomed route to the top of 1800’ Cobble Hill with 360 degree views of Camel’s Hump, Lake Champlain, and the surrounding foothills. A new south end parking area at the height of land on Bert White Road will double parking capacity, and our new warming hut will welcome skiers there.
The Bear Scat Draw, Skunk Brook, and Snake trails have had significant work done, making them more groomable and sustainable. Also, a new 3-4km loop on the west slope of Crow Hill on higher elevation terrain is in progress. And, with the logging activity of the past several years complete, the northern area trails, including Echo Woods, will be open again.
The Annual Meeting of the CHNSA will be held on December 1 at 3 PM, at the new warming hut at the top of Bert White Road, in Huntington.
