provided by CCC

March 6, 2007 (Whitehorse, YT) – The 2007 Canada Winter Games Day began on Feb. 23 but Day 1 for cross-country ski events began yesterday (Monday), which had the Men’s 10 km Interval start set for 11:30am and a women’s 7.5km set for 1pm. Both events were rescheduled to later in the day (3:00pm and 4:00pm, respectively) in the hopes that warmer temperatures would arrive.

The Nordic facilities have yet to reach above -22 Celsius, but a warming trend is on its way and 4:00pm had been the daily high temperature point in recent days. At press time, we have no word about the final decision made by the Jury at 2:00 pm yesterday, PST about the cross-country ski events scheduled for Day 1.

Meanwhile, a news report posted on the Canada Winter Games website refers to how biathlete Brendan Green is using a portable heat exchanger while competing in -30 C weather in Whitehorse.
