Canada’s Elite Training on Home Turf

release by Golden Alpine Holidays
October 25, 2007 – Golden Alpine Holidays (GAH) was pleased to host representatives from Canada’s Nordic Ski Team on October 9th and 10th at Secret valley near Sentry Mountain Lodge. “It’s a real gem,” said Thomas Holland, director of high performance for team Canada, “there is a lot of potential here for early and late season training for our athletes.”

Sara Renner, Devon Kershaw, Daria Gaiazova and Amanda Ammar got an opportunity to test out Canada’s own Secret Valley Nordic Facility courtesy of Golden Alpine Holidays Inc., which is developing a unique Alpine based Nordic Trail System. A brand new 7.5 kilometer classic and skate skiing track was set up as per team spec on October 20th. Athletes got a chance to test drive the new course on October 21-23rd.

GAH’s Nordic skiing pilot project, Secret Valley Nordic trails, are right outside the back door of Sentry Mountain Lodge. At an average elevation of 2100m, Secret Valley will be the earliest to open and one of the highest elevated areas in Canada for premier cross-country skiing. GAH has established a 2km groomed skate skiing course and extended an additional 5km classic ski track in Secret Valley. These courses are on a remote elevated plateau with incredible views of the Selkirks to the west and Rocky Mountains to the east.
