Canadian Government Backs Female Ski Jumpers

January 10, 2008 – The Canadian Government has decided to stand behind the cause of female ski jumpers, who are fighting to have women’s ski jumping included in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as an official medal sport, according to CTV News. Ski jumping and Nordic combined (which also includes jumping) are the only Winter Olympic sports that do not include women’s competition.

The Athletes have filed a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission, which the federal Government has agreed to support. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), however, argues that women’s ski jumping is still not at a caliber that merits Olympic competition.
