Canadian Masters Championships 2007 – Day 2

provided by the Black Jack XC Ski Club

February 8, 2007 (Rossland, BC) – Day two of racing at the Canadian National Masters Championships, sponsored by Kootenay Savings Community Foundation has just wrapped up and it was once again another klister day as racers completed a 10 km classic race.

Competition was intense in the men’s section as Peter Jakl of HollyburnJR/Wnordicski beat out Ian Crosthwaite of Telemark Ski Club by one second flat. Times were 33:34.9 and 33:35.8. Kim Poole of Nelson Nordic came in third overall with a time of 34:02.4. There were several great sprints to the finish, allowing spectators to see some great skiing at Black Jack on Wednesday.

Top woman competitor today was Louise Martineau from the Mouski Ski Club in Rimouski, Quebec. She completed in a time of 37:11.0. Women’s second place overall was nabbed by Kim Kitching of Nipika with a time of 38:41.4. Susan Kaczmarek of Porcupine Ski Runners placed 3rd overall with a time of 39:01.8.

Once again, we had a number of 80+ competitors, providing inspiration to all who watched the races. Camaraderie is high as competitors get to know each other and local skiing icon, Richie Mann invited everyone over to his house for beverages after the race yesterday. Racing continues today with a 10 km free technique race. We are saving the best for last, when the 23rd annual loppet at Black Jack will kick off. Salomon Marathon Cup Series is sponsoring the event and we currently have 100 racers registered so far. You can still register until 7 pm the night before, on Friday and this event is open to all ages and levels. See you there!
