Canadian Men 6th as Germany Wins Both IBU Junior Relays on Final Day of 2014 Youth/Junior Worlds

Germany celebrates [P] Dave AllenMarch 07, 2014 (Presque Isle, ME) – Canada’s Sarah Beaudry, Julia Ransom and Erin Yungblut made the top 10 placing 9th with one penalty and 7 spare rounds in the Women’s 3x6km Relay on Friday as Germany’s trio of Annika Knoll, Marie Heinrich, and Luise Kummer took the gold on the final day of the 2014 Youth/Junior World Champrionships in Presque, Isle, Maine.

France took an early lead but Germany was in second and ready to pounce which they did. Meanwhile Russia took over second and then the lead as Germany fought back to regain it by the second exchange as France faltered. Solid shooting by Beaudry and Ransom saw Canada in third prior to the final exchange.

Germany’s Kummer shot clean to seal the gold while Austria’s Lisa Theresa Hauser looked good for the silver but Russia’s Uliana Kaisheva was no easy mark as she broke away with 500m to go leaving Austria with the bronze.

In the Junior Men’s 4×7.5km relay Team Canada’s Carsen Campbell, Christian Gow, Brett Davie and Pearce Hanna finished a strong 6th with one penalty and 14 spare rounds while Germany scored their second gold making it two-for-two on the final day.

Team USA’s Jakob Ellingson, Tyler Mark Gustafson, Jacob Dalberg and Kamran Muneer Husain finished 14th with one penalty and 14 spare rounds at 10:21.6 behind.

Germany and Norway established an early lead but both had penalties on the seond leg while France’s Clement Dumont shot clean to move into the pole position. On the third leg Germany regained the lead with strong shooting as Norway and France chased with Russia also in the mix. Davie also shot well for Canada using only two spare rounds.

Germany’s Matthias Dorfer would not be denied but Norway faltered on the range as France and Russia battled for silver with France getting the upper hand as Russia settled for the bronze.
