Canadian Women’s XC Ski Training Camp @ Mont-Sainte-Anne Success

report by Emily Nishikawa/CCC

August 28, 2015 (Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC) – Female athletes from the three training centers: AWCA, Thunder Bay and CNEPH, came together in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec for a 2-week training camp this August. There are around 18 athletes in attendance.

Female athletes across Canada have come together as a team. We have the opportunity to work together to make our women’s program stronger. We can all learn something from each other, and by working together we will all become better athletes.

The workouts we have undertaken so far at the camp include rollerskiing intensity, a double pole team sprint, strength, yoga and trail running. A highlight was a 3-hour run ending at the Jean LaRose waterfall.

We have had the chance to meet younger skiers from eastern Canada and get to know the next generation of females skiers.  This camp gives all of us the opportunity to get to know each other better, to make connections and to build friendships.

Outside of daily training, we have included some social activities as a group like dinners out, relaxing in Quebec city, and taking outings for ice cream! By living in a few houses all in close proximity to one another, we have been able to spend time together and become a closer team. A highlight was when we all got together for crepes at breakfast on our rest day.

All in all, this has been a very productive camp. We have trained hard, learned new things, and made new friends from across the country. A big thank you to Francois, Charles and Louis for organizing this camp, hopefully the first of many more to come. Our next training camp will be in Park City in September with the men’s teams.
