March 15, 2010 (Whitehorse, Yukon) – The host Whitehorse Club captured the Challenge
Girls and Boys trophies as over 130 teams contested 6 team sprint categories, at the 83rd Haywood Ski Nationals. It a great day for racing, slightly overcast and plus +3degC with ideal track conditions for the competitors.
Both the men’s and women’s open classes saw keen competition as Team Hardwood was victorious in the men’s events, finishing ahead of western clubs Foothills Nordic and Banff Ski Runners. Foothills Nordic were first in the women’s open event with Canmore Nordic in second after a close race between two 2010 Olympians, Canmore’s Chandra Crawford and Nakkertok’s Perianne Jones.
Host club Whitehorse was the champion in both Challenge competitions followed in second by Nakkertok in both events. The Quebec City area club of Monte Ste. Anne Nordique finished third in the challenge girl’s class and Skinouk from the Gatineau area was third in the boy’s competition.
The College and University relays had Carleton University winning top spot in both men’s and women’s events, with Augustana 1 and 2 sharing the men’s podium and Lakehead 1 and 2 sharing the women’s podium. Racing continues on Tuesday with short distance classic races.
