February 16, 2012 – Foothills Nordic Ski Club is currently seeking to fill the fulltime position of Cross Country Head Coach. This position will lead and/or oversee all levels of cross country ski development programs within the club, from Jackrabbits to Master training groups, with a the primary focus of coaching the Learn-to-Compete and Train-to-Compete LTAD levels through the club’s HP program.

About Foothills Nordic Ski Club:
FNSC is an active full service Nordic ski club based in Calgary, Alberta. Incorporated in 1964, the club has a long history of organizing and delivering programs geared towards cross-country skiers of all ages and performance levels.
The club offers programming from Jackrabbits through to Masters training groups at both a recereation and competitive level. Our members primarily ski out of Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park near Canmore and Kananaskis Country. Foothills Nordic has a long standing record of being one of the top development ski clubs in the nation. The club has won 8 consecutive National Aggregate Club Championship titles and has helped develop numerous world class athletes.

The position:
The Cross Country Head Coach is a full time coaching position. He/she will lead and manage a full range of club level cross country ski programs, from overseeing the Skills Development Programs (Bunnyrabbits, Jackrabbits and Track Attack), to leading the Learning-to-Compete and Training-to-Compete High Performance (HP) program. This position requires a comprehensive technical and leadership skill set, which will be used to help grow Foothills Nordic’s presence within the City of Calgary and the Bow Valley, and to continue to establish the club’s reputation of being the top full service nordic ski club in Canada.

The successful candidate will have mid-level coaching and technical qualifications, supplemented by strong communication, motivational and presentation skills, and effective organizational skills. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta, but will require travel during the entire year to attend training camps and competitions.
This position reports directly to the Cross Country Director.
Term: Full-time position (1 year renewable contract starting May 1, 2012)

General Responsibilities: These include but are not limited to the following.
• Design, implement and monitor an annual training and competition plan for the HP program.
• Lead weekday and weekend HP training sessions and training camps.
• Coaching, waxing and leading national, provincial and local competitions, including the SDP through to the Masters training groups;
• Coordinate/organize/lead with other coaches on monthly training schedules for all club program levels.
• Oversee the Training-to-Train (YRG) and Learning-to-Train (Track-Attack) season training plans.
• Maintain the club’s waxing supplies.
• Provide timely and effective communication to athletes and other coaches, parents and club members;
• Manage administrative tasks and accountability measures established to evaluate the program.
• Participate in coaching development opportunities made available through CCA, CCC, and the CAC (Coaching Association of Canada).

Required Qualifications:
• Experience coaching at the national level with the proven ability to deliver and integrate the key components of the program: technique, physiology, tactics, psychology and health;
• Must be dedicated to high performance excellence through creative and innovative approaches to delivering training programs;
• Proven ability to motivate and gain the trust and confidence of all levels of athletes;
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational expertise;
• Ability to work as a team member and independent contributor;
• Proven wax skills.
• Minimum coaching certification of NCCP Level 2, with the intention of pursuing level 3 during the employment contract with Foothills Nordic.
