January 21, 2011 (Augusta, Maine) – The Colby Carnival is underway in Augusta, Maine for the first time as Nordic collegiate racers gathered on Friday for the 15km women’s and 20km men’s individual start classic races. Because of insufficient cover at Titcomb Mountain, Farmington Ski Club and Colby College will host the Nordic competitions on the Bond Brook trails.

Lucy Garrec (UVM) won the 15km women’s race over Dartmouth’s Steph Crocker in second with Garrec’s team mate Anja Gruber in third. In the men’s 20km contest it was Dartmouth’s NIls Koons prevailing over UVM’s Franz Bernstein in second followed by Eric Packer (DAR) in third.

The racing continues on Saturday with a 3x5km freestyle relay.
