release by Concept2

December 13, 2010 – Innovative athletes have been adapting the Concept2 Indoor Rower to meet their needs. Faced with such challenges as paralysis, amputation, vision loss, and hearing loss, these athletes along with dedicated researchers have expanded the sport of rowing, making it accessible to a community of people with many varied gifts and abilities.

On November 13, hundreds of people in fitness centers around the world came together to Sweat for a Vet and celebrate Veteran’s Day. Concept2 CTS was a major sponsor and provided personnel and indoor rowers for the event at Tysons Sport & Health in McLean, Virginia. Well over 100 able-bodied and disabled people pedaled Spin bikes, Krankcycled and rowed for three hours to raise funds for fitness equipment to outfit the rehab facilities at Walter Reed Army Hospital and Bethesda’s National Naval Medical Center.

Sweat for a Vet was organized by Project VisAbility, an organization that links job opportunities in the fitness world with physically challenged fitness instructors. In all, over $70,000 was raised to support the fitness goals of disabled veterans
