Cross-Country Canada and Project Podium Build Support to 2018 Olympic Games

release by CCC

Project Podium feature_podium2November 16, 2014 (Canmore, AB) – Canada’s best cross-country ski athletes will soon hit the start line on the journey to the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and Cross Country Ski de Fond Canada (CCC) is giving all Nordic fans an opportunity to be a part of this exciting journey through Project Podium – a unique and accessible fundraising initiative.

Project Podium takes fundraising to a new level by bringing supporters and partners closer than ever to athletes and staff through benefits like access to team gear, lessons and ski tips with National Team athletes, and VIP behind-the-scenes access at international and domestic World Cup events.

“Cross-country skiing has taken great strides on the field of play in Canada over the last decade, and as a result we now have a greater following than ever before,” said Davin MacIntosh, CEO of CCC. “It is our goal through Project Podium to share our excitement with passionate fans and supporters, provide them with special and memorable experiences and encourage them to make CCC part of their annual charitable giving. The money raised from this program will contribute to delivering the resources our athletes require to achieve our ultimate goal of standing on the international podium.”

Originally launched in December 2012, Project Podium generated $50,000 for the National Ski Team and CCC development programs in its inaugural season. Last year CCC adjusted the program’s investment levels to encourage more participation, including the addition of a new Bronze level membership at an annual contribution of $1,000. Gold and Silver memberships are also available at $10,000 and $2,500, respectively. The revamped structure resulted in 50% growth in the program’s second year, bringing the two-year fundraising total to over $125,000.

“Financial support for our programs is absolutely vital, but Project Podium is about much more than just that,” added MacIntosh. “We are building an engaged community of supporters that will ensure the long-term success of our sport. We look forward to welcoming new members to our family, to share in the athletes’ pursuit of excellence on the trail to Pyeongchang 2018, and beyond.”
