CXC in Charge at Minnesota SuperTour as Kuzzy and Compton Top Fields

January 23, 2011 (Minneapolis, Minnesota) – The CXC Elite Team claimed both the men’s and women’s SuperTour races on home snow in the Midwest for the Mayor’s Challenge on Saturday as Caitlin Compton won the 5km and Garrott Kuzzy and took the men’s 10km individual start freestyle races in sunny, cold conditions. The races doubled with the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) competitions as well as the Midwest division’s Junior Olympic Qualifiers.

Compton bested team mate Maria Stuber by 30s in the women’s race for the win with UAF’s Raphaela Sieber in third as the top collegiate skier. In second behind Sieber was Carloyn Freeman (UWGB) who was fourth overall with Kristina Owen (5th) taking the third spot on the college podium.

Kuzzy’s time of 23:05 was 4s better than teammate Matt Leibsch as Sylvan Ellefson (SSCV Team Homegrown) claimed third another 22s back. CXC’s Bryan Cook took fourth while his bro Chris Cook (Steinbock Racing) was 5th. Topping the collegiate field was Ray Sabo (UAF) in ninth place followed by Andy Liebner (12th) and Martin Banerud (13th) both from NMU in 2nd and third respectively.

On Sunday skiers will contest the 10/15km mass start classic.
