Demong 2nd in 15km in Italy – Fastest Race Time

January 12, 2008 (Val di Fiemme, Italy) – Billy Demong couldn’t catch World Cup leader Ronny Ackermann, but he came up with the fastest 15km race Saturday and finished second in a rainy Nordic Combined World Cup competition. Demong moved into second in the combined overall standings.

Ackermann started 98 seconds ahead of Demong and the German finished 34.1 seconds in the lead. Demong just out-legged Germany’s Sebastien Haseney by two-tenths of a second to place second. When he won an individual event in Trondheim, Norway, he was 0.7 seconds ahead of Haseney.

Johnny Spillane finished 19th while Canadian Max Thompson did not start. After 10 World Cup events, Ackermann has 626 points to 557 for Demong. Spillane is in a tie for 14th place at 206.
